Mother’s Day is fast approaching on the 31st March. Why not take your mum for a delicious meal at one of the pubs recommended by the Good Pub Guide?

The Barn Bar and Restaurant, Tunbridge Wells

The Barn is one of Kent’s best loved wedding venues, and it is offering a special Mother’s Day meal this year! Treat your mum to a glass of prosecco in the beautiful garden and enjoy three courses plus coffee for £22.95, where you can choose from options such as Fresh Scottish Salmon or a Grilled Rump Steak. Make sure you try the sticky toffee pudding, which regulars rave about.

The Orange, Pimlico

In London this Mother’s Day? Why not head down to the Good Pub Guide London Dining Pub of the Year 2017! The Orange offers a huge range of options that will suit every member of your family. Standout items from the menu include pizza, steak, the chicken roast or the house pie (which changes every day). Known for being one of the most beautifully decorated pubs in London, it is the perfect setting to bring your mum.

Fancy exploring after lunch? Wander around quiet Belgravia and pick up some flowers at Wild at Heart or some fragrance at Jo Loves, located on nearby Elizabeth Street.

Central London, SW1W 8NE

Café Royal, Edinburgh

If your mum is a fan of architecture, the historic Café Royal in Edinburgh is the natural choice. The restaurant dates back to 1862, and is known for its Victorian interior, tilework portraits of historical innovators and stained glass detailing. They serve several wines by the glass and are particularly well-known for their seafood, such as Scottish smoked salmon or fresh oysters.

Make sure to book well in advance as it can get busy!

The Bear Hotel, Crickhowell, Wales

Formerly an old coaching inn, the Bear Hotel remains relatively untouched by the passage of time, and is the perfect place to bring your mum for a cosy Sunday Lunch. Known for its use of local ingredients, the Bear offers a Sunday Lunch Menu of three courses for £22.50. Particular highlights from the menu include the traditional fish pie and the Welsh lamb shank.

If your mum is a wine fan, the Bear is a great option with a varied wine list that has garnered a wine award from the Good Pub Guide. Cheers!

Crickhowell, Wales

Martins Arms, Colston Bassett, Nottinghamshire

One for the foodies, the Martins Arms in Colston Basset was the Nottinghamshire Dining Pub of the Year 2012-2017 and offers reasonably priced traditional pub food in its bar area, or fine dining in its restaurant. There is something for everyone on the bar menu – from cheese soufflé to fish and chips or a ploughman’s lunch, while the restaurant fare contains highlights such as risotto, steak and scallops. There is a degree of crossover between the two, so do check out the menus online to see which one is more up your street.

The surroundings could not be more idyllic. The pub is a 16th century former farmhouse with a garden that backs on to National Trust parkland. After lunch, visit the church opposite and Colston Bassett Dairy (just outside the village) which produces and sells its own stilton cheese.

Blue Lion, East Witton, Yorkshire

This tastefully decorated Georgian inn has a relaxed, laid back feel which is reflective of its long serving owners. The Blue Lion has a great wine list, offering 15 wines by the glass (not including champagne), but the food is really where it shines. Its Sunday Roast menu is £31.50 for three courses and includes sophisticated starters such as salmon roulade, with all the classic options for a roast. Make sure you try one of their trademark huge Yorkshire puddings!

East Witton, Leyburn, Yorkshire

The Perch, Bisney, Oxford

Just outside of the city, through the picturesque Port Meadow, lies The Perch. With cows grazing nearby, this riverside pub feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford. Its traditional, yet chic décor welcomes you in for a long stay. Enjoy a Sunday Roast in the newly renovated dining room, or try one of the other delicious dishes – we recommend the braised ox cheeks or the risotto.

Make sure to mention to your mum that the Perch is said to be one of the first places that Lewis Carroll gave public readings of Alice in Wonderland!
