Interesting old coaching inn with good own-brewed beer, highly regarded food and riverside garden; bedrooms

With rewarding food, consistently helpful, friendly staff and own brews, this former coaching inn is a winner. The heavily beamed and extended lounge bar is traditionally furnished with a variety of seats from small carved or leatherette armchairs to winged settles by the windows, and there's both a warm log fire and a vast stove in a big central stone hearth. The bar opens into a light and airy garden room. From their own Teme Valley microbrewery (using locally grown hops) they produce Talbot Blonde, That, This, T'Other and a seasonal ale on handpump and hold regular beer festivals; also, a dozen wines by the glass and 16 malt whiskies. The back public bar has pool on a raised side area, a TV, darts, a juke box and cribbage; in contrast, the dining room is a stylish and sedate place for a quiet meal. In warm weather, it's lovely to use the tables on the lawn beside the River Teme (it's across the lane from the inn, but they serve out here too) or you can sit in front of the building on old-fashioned seats. The clean, warm bedrooms have a small decanter of their own damson gin and biscuits. A farmers' market takes place here on the second Sunday of the month. Wheelchair access and loo.
