The good pub guide review

This welcoming, down-to-earth thatched inn dating from the mid 17th c (known locally as 'Eli's' after the licensees' grandfather) has been run by the same family for 150 years. There's no bar as such, just a central flagstoned still room where drinks are served: Teignworthy Reel Ale and a couple of guests such as Fine Tuned Sunshine Reggae and Hanlons Yellow Hammer, local farm cider and Somerset cider brandy. The casual little front parlours, with their unusual pointed arch windows, have family photographs, books, cribbage, dominoes, shove-ha'penny and bagatelle and attract a good mix of both locals and visitors. A much more orthodox big back extension has pool, a games machine and a juke box. There are plenty of seats and tables in the extensive outdoor area and two lawns ' one is enclosed and has a children's play area. There's also a separate skittle alley, a large car park, morris men (in summer), classic car and motorbike meets and an organic produce co-op on Friday evenings. Pub customers and Brit Stop members can camp (by arrangement) on the adjoining paddock. The site of the Battle of Langport (1645) and good river walks are nearby.

The good pub guide food review

Fairly priced, home-made food includes sandwiches, good soups, cottage pie, nachos, vegetarian or meat bean chilli, pork, apple and cider cobbler, chicken in tarragon sauce, and puddings such as apple crumble and white chocolate and raspberry bread and butter pudding.
