Wed 11th Aug 2010 - Myself and my fiancee were in the area for a few days on a short break and on our final night we wandered into Whitchurch to have something to eat and a pint. This pub had some decent reviews online and the board outside proclaimed the superior status of this pub for both food and drink. Our experience was positive for both the drink(a couple of decent enough pints of ale of which I cant recall the names) and food (which was no frills but well done and good value)... my problem is the woman serving behind the bar - she was foul. Her attitude was apalling. Very rude, communicating in grunts if at all and practically threw my change back at me. Our plates of food were dumped down onto the table without so much as a word from her. I thought maybe she had taken a dislike to us however I soon realised she was consistently rude and abrupt with all customers. An example of how a pub, no matter how good everything else, can be let down by its frontline staff.

Thursday 13th October 2011. On a boating holiday, stopped at Whitchurch to walk to the town - it's lovely. Time for lunch and a beer, so found this pub tucked away up the side street. Had a dog with us so checked that food was on and that dog was ok and got a rousing yes to both. It's a Joules pub with two of their ales as fixtures and 5-6 real ales rotating through the other pumps. Landlady was delighted that we knew our beers and the Plum Porter was gorgeous. Food reasonably priced and good fayre. Good garden area and friendly service. Proper pub, well worth the stop.
