What the licensee says

The Black Bear is a delightful half timbered freehouse dating back to 1662 overlooking St Alkmunds Church in the market town of Whitchurch. The interior is quirky and welcoming with a real fire in winter. The Bear specialises in cask ales with six hand pulls serving beers from Shropshire and countrywide. Good simple food is prepared on the premises by the kitchen team every lunchtime and evening apart from Sunday when the lunch menu is served until 5pm. There is also an interesting wine list to compliment the food. Folk and acoustic music is favourite at the Bear with regular monthly and spontaneous sessions. There is a covered smoking area and a tiny garden just big enough for two benches with a great view of the Church and our "Bear" graffitti wall.
