Good Pub Guide Recommended

Charming pub with carefully refurbished rooms, plenty of character, first class food and drink and seats outside; lovely bedrooms

Walkers with their dogs and cyclists come here while exploring the Candover Valley, so lunchtimes can get pretty busy. It's a handsome flint and brick pub and the bar has an easy-going atmosphere, leather button-back armchairs, little stools and wooden chairs around a mix of tables on wide floorboards, and high chairs against the counter where they offer Ramshead (a beer named for them from Marstons), Palmers Copper and a weekly changing guest such as Two Cocks 1643 Cavalier on handpump, 15 wines by the glass and a rather special bloody mary. Leading off here is a dining room with flagstones and carpet, a raised fireplace with guns, bellows and other country knick-knacks above it and chunky tables and chairs. Throughout the other rooms are rugs on flagstones, exposed brick and stone work, a few bits of timbering and beamery, church candles, lots of photographs, some cosy booth seating and high-back upholstered dining chairs and leather wall seats around a medley of tables. The pool table converts into a dining table when they're really busy. Outside, on the terrace, on gravel and on grass are teak tables and chairs and picnic-sets under parasols, and distant views. The bedrooms, named after game birds, are extremely comfortable and well equipped.
