Good Pub Guide Recommended

Busy local with simple pubby furnishings in bar, cottagey restaurant and seats outside

Cheerful staff and plenty of locals create a relaxed, chatty atmosphere in the heavily beamed bar. It has built-in wooden window seats, tall farmhouse and other red-cushioned pubby chairs on flagstones or bare boards, a woodburning stove in an inglenook fireplace with a stuffed boar's head and large clock above it, and horsebrasses on the bressumer beam; a noticeboard has news of beer festivals and live music events. Wadworths IPA, 6X and a guest beer on handpump, eight wines by the glass, 17 malt whiskies and a farm cider. The back restaurant is beamed and cottagey with standing timbers, dark wooden chairs and tables on floorboards and rugs, and plates on a dresser. Picnic-sets at the front make the most of the charming location by the pretty village green and the window boxes are lovelyand colourful in summer.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime a couple of weeks ago and very impressed. Parking a bit of a problem on roadside beside the Green but more available if you're prepared to walk a few yards. The bar area was busy but not a crush and we managed to find a table without a problem. Very welcoming pub, no music just chat, and friendly locals quite happy for you to join in (and even help with their crosswords!). Dogs welcome too. Good selection of beers on handpump including Wadworths 6X and some other local guests. Food good - I had a steak and kidney pie that for once included more than a bit of minced kidney, with side plates of vegetables and chips. Disabled access seemed reasonable too - there were a couple of mobility scooters parked outside. Would have been happy to spend more time there, but had things to do...!

Been a couple of times now. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. There is a variety of good beers and good food. WIll definitely be returning shortly.

Friendly village local on village green. Good choice of real ales and good food. Lots of character. Recommended.
