Good Pub Guide Recommended

Bustling, traditional village local with real character, highly regarded and fair value food and well chosen wines; bedrooms

Whether you are dropping into this charming pub for a drink, here to enjoy a good meal or staying overnight, you'll be sure to get a genuinely warm welcome from the convivial licensees. The place is split into two sections: a contemporary dining area and an older part with flagstones, wood flooring, low beams and raftered ceilings. As it's surrounded by racehorse-training country, the walls are hung with big Alfred Munnings racecourse prints, card collections of Grand National winners and other horse and jockey pictures. There are old high-backed settles and leather armchairs, a woodburning stove in a big fireplace and an easy-going atmosphere. A beer named for the pub (from Greene King), Ruddles Best and a changing guest on handpump, carefully chosen wines by the glass, 20 gins and a dozen malt whiskies; background music and board games. As well as tables under a heated courtyard canopy, there's a separate enclosed informal garden. Bedrooms, housed in another building, are quiet and comfortable. Disabled access.
