This place seems to have improved year on year recently, and is now a great place to eat or drink. The main bar areas situated around a big fireplace have tons of character. A couple of newer areas are comfortable but not quite so atmospheric, and there's a large barn-like room for larger functions and the Sunday carvery. There's a good range of very well cooked food on offer, and prices are more reasonable than most dining pubs in the area, especially considering the high quality. Service is very good by the attentive and numerous young staff. A constantly changing range of well kept ales are tapped from casks behind the bar. It's usually pretty busy here, which reflects the all-round excellence of the place.

Very good pub - comfortable and with friendly staff. We were staying in the area and ate there 3 nights - everything we had was well above average. Chicken wrapped in parma ham, steamed cod fillet, pork and apple burger, and ceasar salads. Prices were reasonable too.
