Good Pub Guide Recommended

Friendly dining pub with low-beamed rooms, an interesting range of drinks and food, and seats in the big garden

Rambling around the bar in this civilised pub, the low-beamed rooms have bare stone walls, open fires and woodburning stoves (one in a big worn stone fireplace), mixed plain tables and chairs on pale flagstones, armchairs and a sofa in one corner and daily papers. Four steps lead up into a high-raftered area with wood flooring, and there's another separate, smaller room that's ideal for a lunch or dinner party. Also, lots of country prints and more modern pictures, fresh flowers, candles and some quirky, rustic decorations such as a garden-fork door handle, garden-spade beer pumps and so forth. Butcombe Gold and Rare Breed and a couple of guests such as Bath Gem and Prescott Hill Climb on handpump, as well as carefully chosen wines and champagne by the glass, home-made seasonal cocktails and local fruit liqueurs; background music and board games. There are teak seats around cask tables among the weeping willows, as well as a boules piste. Good access for those in need of extra assistance. Sister business the Rectory Hotel is a stone's throw away.

What the licensee says

Discover great beer, wine and delicious food at Cirencester's foodie public house, The Potting Shed Pub. The Potting Shed Pub is an exciting venture situated 200 yards across the road from the Rectory Hotel in the village of Crudwell. Our philosophy is to focus on a classic British Menu, accompanied by a selection of quality, well-kept British ales and an extensive choice of wine, champagne and port - all served with a traditional warmth of service. It marks the rebirth of the traditional British Dining Pub, moving away from the 'over done' gastropub, focusing on the things that really matter: namely, a beautiful environment, great beers on tap, a concise and interesting wine list and of course fantastic food.
