Fine range of ales and ciders in splendid building with lots to look at and good country food; comfortable bedrooms

There's so much going for this wonderful old place, it's no wonder we get such enthusiastic reports from our readers. The warm bar - basically four small friendly rooms opened into a single area tucked behind a massive central chimney - contains open fires, broad flagstones, red patterned carpet, sturdy country tables and a couple of long pews and various other seats. Marstons Saddle Tank and guests from breweries such as Abbeydale, Howard Town, Marble, Kelham Island, Peak, RedWillow, Storm, and Whim on handpump, as well as some interesting lagers on tap, 20 malt whiskies, eight cask ciders, a rare range of bottled ciders and around 50 bottled (mostly belgian) beers. They hold a beer festival with music in September. Also, around a dozen new world wines by the glass and friendly, helpful service. The dining room is surprisingly grand with a great stone chimney soaring into high eaves, refectory tables on a parquet floor, lovely old mullioned windows and a splendid minstrels' gallery. The pretty walled garden has picnic-sets under sycamore trees. Some of the attractive bedrooms look over the garden and there's also a self-catering cottage.

What the licensee says

Located in the attractive hamlet of Whitehough (15 minutes from Castleton & Edale, 20 minutes from Buxton) the Old Hall Inn is nestled in the valley between 'Eccles pike' and 'Cracken Edge'. A family run, 16th Century Peak District bed and breakfast located in the heart of prime walking and exploring territory. We offer excellent en-suite Peak District accommodation, fine food and cask ales. We are a traditional cosy country pub that adjoins Whitehough Hall, an old manor house with private dining rooms and a Minstrels Gallery restaurant. We take great pride in what we do and our Peak District hotel is well known for its attention to quality and service, making any stay, long or short one to remember! We have plenty of up & coming events such as our Winter Beer Festival and Medieval Banquet(St Georges Day)!
