The good pub guide review

Beautifully renovated red-brick village pub, run by a young enthusiastic couple. Much emphasis is of course placed on the very good, well presented food cooked by Mr Sanderson, but the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and there's a proper bar for those just wanting a pint and a chat. Furnishings are simple: elegant and more contemporary wooden dining chairs and cushioned window seats around chunky pine tables on bare boards, prints and old black and white photographs of the pub on pale-painted walls, wine bottles lining delft shelves and a couple of open fires. Hook Norton Hooky Gold, Sharps Doom Bar and West Berkshire Good Old Boy on handpump and a dozen wines by the glass; background music. The airy little dining conservatory leads to a terrace with rattan-style furniture and there are more seats on the lawn.

The good pub guide food review

The food offerings will not disappoint with options such as Windsor estate pork, confit belly, roast tenderloin, dauphinoise, celeriac remoulade, fresh apple, or classics such as beer battered haddock, rustic chips, truffled mushy peas, tartare sauce, lemon. The weekend specials are not to be missed for example moules frites or crispy mackerel fillets, beetroot and celeriac remoulade, lemon, herby mayonnaise.
