Good Pub Guide Recommended

Well run pub with several bars and dining rooms, good wines by the glass, first class food and seats outside

Of course, customers are here to enjoy the imaginative food cooked by the landlady, but they also keep a good choice of drinks such as St Austell Tribute and a beer named for the pub (from Padstow) on handpump, 25 wines by the glass and a couple of ciders. It's welcoming and attractive and the main bar has a leather armchair beside a log fire in a raised fireplace (fairy lights on the bressumer beam), beer-cask seats, chairs and cushioned window seats by a mix of tables on floor slates, and stools at the wooden counter. The dining rooms are relaxed and informal with dark farmhouse, wheelback and elegant wooden chairs and tables on bare boards or rugs, a second fireplace, fresh flowers and candlelight; background music. There are picnic-sets under parasols at the front and more seats in the garden.

We heard really good things about this place so were keen to try it. Unfortunately we were left really disappointed. Firstly this place cannot really be called a pub this is purely a restaurant. The atmosphere is so stuffy. The food is ok however for me too pretentious. This place is supposed to be a pub and I find it great when pubs push the food up a level. However for me everything is far too over priced and portions tiny. We have been here twice hoping the second time would be better unfortunately we will not return
