Good Pub Guide Recommended

Friendly dining pub combining an informal pub atmosphere with creative food; bedrooms

Lucky regulars to have this Cotswold-stone inn as their local. Of course it's the delicious food cooked by Emily Watkins that customers are here for but this remains a proper pub with cheerful staff and an informal feel. The little bar, looking over the village green, has an interesting choice of drinks, some nice old high-backed settles and brightly cushioned chapel chairs on broad dark boards, candles on stripped tables and cheerful farmyard animal and country prints; at one end is a big log fire, at the other a woodburning stove. A snug one-table area is opposite the servery where they keep Hook Norton Hooky and a guest such as Donnington On the Nose on handpump, ten wines by the glass including three sparkling ones, 14 malt whiskies, several gins and local cider; background music. The fairly spacious and raftered two-part dining room is up a few steps. The bedrooms are comfortable and pretty and the breakfasts very good.

What the licensee says

The Kingham Plough is the quintessential Cotswold Inn combining an outstanding restaurant alongside a perfect village pub. The food is modern British. Traditional Cotswolds recipes are adapted to make the most of native, local and seasonal ingredients. All of the meat used arrives as whole beasts which are usually selected direct from the fields around Kingham and other ingredients are sourced from local smallholders and artisans. Everything is made on site from sausages and bacon to bread and ice creams.Upstairs there are 7 boutique en-suite bedrooms which are designed for maximum comfort with Egyptian cotton linen, Penhaligon toiletries, flat-screen televisions, DVD players, tea, coffee and home-made biscuits.
