Refurbished pub with original windows and fireplaces, plenty of eating and dining space and seats outside; bedrooms

?First class at everything' says one reader with enthusiasm, and many others agree. This is a lovely red-brick village pub with a genuine welcome and excellent food. The bar is just the place for a drink by the woodburning stove, and simple furnishings include pubby chairs and plush stools around a mix of tables on wide floorboards, with more stools against the counter. As well as four real ales, such as Little Ox Wipeout, Millstone Tiger Rut, North Cotswold Windrush Ale and West Berkshire Good Old Boy on handpump, you'll find 20 wines by the glass and ten gins; background music, TV, darts and board games. The main dining room has lots of prints on pale walls, cushioned wooden dining chairs and settles with scatter cushions around solid tables and rugs on more bare boards; one red-walled room has similar furnishings on quarry tiles. At the back, picnic-sets sit under parasols on a lawn. Bedrooms are light, well equipped and up to date (dogs are allowed in three of them) and make a good base for enjoying the fine surrounding walks; the chalk horse at Uffington is nearby.

What the licensee says

The Greyhound Inn is an 18th century free house in a pretty village within the Vale of the White Horse, close to the Ridgeway Path. We hope you find us a great example of a proper village pub, where our community comes together and visitors are made very welcome. We are proud of our real ales, and boast four constantly changing hand pumps, from local suppliers and the best of the UK. We are also passionate about food, and our award-winning chef Phil Currie and his team cook delicious homemade dishes. We have an a la carte menu, a specials board with pub classics, and at lunchtimes, soups and sandwiches.Outside we have a large garden and plenty of parking, for cars, cycles and horses!Upstairs we have eight lovely bedrooms, with luxury handmade beds for a restful sleep, and an amazing breakfast to start the next day with.www.thegreyhoundletcombe.co.uk
