Sturdy four-square hillside pub (new management) in quiet spot just below the moors overlooking Standedge Canal tunnel; good value food (till 7pm Sun, not Mon) from sandwiches and snacks up, well kept ales such as Black Sheep, Millstone and Timothy Taylors, helpful staff; free wi-fi; children and dogs welcome, disabled access, picnic-sets out among trees, four bedrooms, closed Mon lunchtime, otherwise open all day
