Stunning views, very good food and plenty of seasonal visitors

A fine base for walkers - the route from here along the cliff to Dunstanburgh Castle (English Heritage) is popular - this unpretentious local is at its best on a clear day when you can enjoy the lovely position overlooking the harbour and out to sea. The friendly, bustling bar has a cheerful atmosphere, a warming winter fire, leather button-back wall banquettes and upholstered and wooden dining chairs around hefty tables on bare boards, a few stools scattered here and there, and photographs and paintings in gilt-edged frames; background music. There's Black Sheep, Mordue Workie Ticket and Northumbrian Blonde and Timothy Taylors Landlord on handpump, served by friendly staff. From big windows in the upstairs dining room you look down on the water. Seats and tables in the garden have the same outlook and get snapped up pretty quickly. They have a couple of fishermen's cottages and an apartment for rent as well as a café and gift shop opposite the pub.
