Hawkshead Brewery showcase plus a huge choice of bottled beers, brewery memorabilia and tasty food

The full range of Hawkshead Brewery ales are served by knowledgeable, friendly staff from 14 handpumps: these might include Bitter, Brodies Prime, Dry Stone Stout, Lakeland Gold, Lakeland Lager, Red, Windermere Pale and seasonal beers; regular beer festivals. Also, 40 bottled beers, 25 gins and 50 whiskies with an emphasis on independent producers. It's a spacious and modern glass-fronted building and the main bar is on two levels with the lower level dominated by the stainless-steel fermenting vessels. There are high-backed chairs around light wooden tables, benches beside long tables and nice dark leather sofas around low tables (all on oak floorboards); a couple of walls are almost entirely covered with artistic photos of barley, hops and the brewing process. You can buy T-shirts, branded glasses and polypins and there are brewery tours. Parking can be tricky at peak times.

Regular brewery tours are also conducted. The kitchen offers good value, down to earth, hearty food. As well as main dishes you can graze on 'beer tapas' - delicious, small and inexpensive portions designed to complement the beer.Beer festivals are held twice a year, one in the Spring and one in the Summer, each with over 50 beers. There is regular live music, check the 'What's On' page on the website, Sunday's regular jam session is a great way to close the weekend. You can buy Hawkshead products and merchandise over the bar too.
