Wonderfully old-fashioned survivor in remote hamlet by historic church facing the Black Mountains; friendly stable-door bar with open fire each end, a few mats and comfortable armchairs on stone floor, lots of ornaments and knick-knacks, photos of past village events, books for sale, games including darts and devil among the tailors, bottled Wye Valley and cider, no food or credit cards; dogs welcome, open all day weekends, closed weekday lunchtimes

Great pub - perfect time warp with stone flag floors, hatch bar and bar games. Very friendly service.

Fantastic pub. Like going back in time. Everything you could ask for in a tiny village pub. No real ale. Oh well. Who cares.

Living history - worth a serious detour. Not many like this left unrestored. Have had some interesting conversations over the years in this pub. You don't come here for the beer.

I would love to visit. Im doing my family tree. My great great grandfather John Gwillim born 1817 was innkeeper of this pub. He lived here with his wife and 10 children! One of whom was Thomas Walter Gwillim born 1863 my great grandfather. His brother Benjamin owned Bridge Farm in Ewyas Harold and his son Frank Archer Gwillim was one of the first players of Ewyas Harold football club. A photo was in the paper in 1905. He married Lily Prosser whose father ran The Dog Inn and where the first meetings were held. It was called a different name then. Would love to meet any living descendants.
