Cheerful backstreet pub built in the 1830s; five well kept ales including Tring, real cider and decent choice of malt whiskies and gins, good value food (not Sun evening) from pub favourites up including daily specials, special diets catered for, stools around cast-iron tables, cushioned pews, some pine panelling and two warm coal fires (unusually below windows), separate courtyard restaurant (Fri-Sun); darts, free wi-fi; children till 8.30pm, no dogs inside, open all day weekends from 10am for breakfast
