Good Pub Guide Recommended

Busy old pub in nice spot with neatly kept bar and dining rooms, real ales and pleasing food using local produce

Walkers, diners and cricketers give this 16th-c pub a bustling, chatty atmosphere. The simple, traditional bar has stools by the counter where they serve Greene King IPA and Abbot and a guest such as Hogs Back TEA on handpump, 23 wines by the glass and a fine bloody mary. There are also beams, a mix of wooden chairs and tables, parquet flooring and an inglenook fireplace. Open to the top of the rafters, the dining room is spacious and airy with church candles and fresh flowers on light wood tables, and a couple of comfortable sofas facing each other in front of an open woodburning stove; background music and board games. The border terrier is called Gillie and visiting dogs may get a dog biscuit. There are tables in a large side garden and the village green and cricket pitch are opposite.

What the licensee says

The Noah's Ark is a beautiful 16th century pub situated in the picturesque village of Lurgashall, on the Surrey & West Sussex borders, and just a stone's throw from Blackdown Hill. Alongside an interesting wine list there are three ales; IPA, Abbot Ale and a regularly changing guest. The pub is extremely child friendly and dogs are very welcome in the bar.Our menus offer simple, interesting British classics built around the English seasons with an emphasis on fresh, clean flavours. We believe that provenance is key and aim to source only the best local ingredients, from small reputable suppliers. Our concise menu changes regularly and caters for people looking for a traditional pub meal and those seeking something more interesting. The vegetable garden is used throughout the summer, growing a variety of heritage tomatoes, beans, garlic and herbs which are used in many of the dishes. We also have our own home-smoker, so house smoked meats, fish and cheeses feature regularly too. For more details: www.noahsarkinn.co.uk
