Nice old pub in attractive village with own-brewed ales, thoughtful choice of food and seats in garden; bedrooms

If you're visiting either Hidcote (National Trust) or Kiftsgate Court Gardens (both of which are nearby), why not come here for lunch? The character bar and dining room have beams, a log fire in a fine inglenook fireplace, a woodburning stove in a second fireplace (the ironwork is original) with armchairs beside it, an airy bow-window seat, ladder-back and farmhouse chairs and cushioned settles on old flagstones or bare boards, and fresh flowers and church candles. They keep three own-brewed Yubberton ales (Yubby Bitter, Yubby Goldie and the seasonal Yawnie Bitter) on handpump alongside local guests such as North Cotswold Moreton Mild, Otter Bitter and Wye Valley Dorothy Goodbodys Wholesome Stout, good wines from a thoughtful list (with notes), nine gins, farm cider and winter mulled wine. Board games, bagatelle, shut the box and dominoes. An arched stone wall shelters seats and tables under parasols on the terrace and picnic-sets line the lawn. The well equipped, country-style bedrooms are very comfortable and breakfasts are good. The three venerable oak trees after which this old stone pub was once named still stand outside by the village green. This is sister pub to the Killingworth Castle in Wootton (in Oxfordshire).
