Good Pub Guide Recommended

Friendly, traditionally furnished pub with plenty to look at, five real ales, tasty food and seats in attractive garden

Our readers continue to send us enthusiastic reports on the food and drink here as it's a busy, old-fashioned and friendly pub. The split-level connected rooms have an informal, easy-going feel and feature two open fires and traditional furnishings such as built-in planked and cushioned wall seats, settles and farmhouse chairs around all sorts of tables, quarry tiles and floorboards. There are stone bottles, bookshelves, breweriana on red or cream walls and even a stuffed badger. Castles White Knight, Flying Monk Elmers, Milton Sparta, Moles Jailers Daughter and Wickwar Cotswold Way on handpump alongside ten wines by the glass, a dozen malt whiskies and farm cider; they hold beer and cider festivals with local musicians and also brewery trips. The nicely landscaped garden has benches and picnic-sets on a terrace and a lawn and under a covered gazebo; the flowering tubs and window boxes are pretty. Wheelchair access to the top bar/dining area only; disabled loos are shared with baby-changing facilities.

What the licensee says

A busy freehouse in the village of Eastington just off the M5 junction10. The Old Badger Inn offers a warm welcome in traditional country pub surroundings.Once boarded up and Pubco owned, now an independent freehouse, breweriana adorns the walls with hops, enamel brewery signs and old pub mirrors, the bar is well stocked and inviting. A good selection of Cask Ales from regional microbreweries and Summer & Winter Beer Festivals. The interior has several connecting rooms and cosy little corners, two open fires blaze in the winter months and dogs are welcome. A menu of excellent quality food from fresh ingredients is offered, with the Tapas menu popular with large groups! Outside is a pretty lawned garden with lots of seating and tables and a covered heated oak gazebo makes the patio a welcoming area in the colder months. www.oldbadgerinn.co.uk
