Good Pub Guide Recommended

Bustling pub with traditional, comfortable bars, log fires, real ales, malt whiskies and tasty bar food; neat bedrooms

This is a godsend for thirsty walkers and cyclists (the pub is in the centre of the Yorkshire Dales National Park) and you can be sure of a hearty welcome from the friendly landlord. There's a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere, bow-window seats and a pair of stripped traditional settles among more usual pub seats (all well cushioned), a good log fire and Jennings Cumberland, Marstons 61 Deep and Wainwright and Yorkshire Dales Butter Tubs on handpump; also, eight wines by the glass, 20 malt whiskies, ten gins and farm cider. On the right, a few steps lead down to a room with darts and ring the bull. On the left, past leather armchairs and a sofa next to a second log fire (and a glass chess set), is an extensive two-part dining room with décor in cream and shades of brown, and a modicum of fishing memorabilia. The bedrooms are neat, simple and comfortable, and breakfasts good. There are picnic-sets outside and the lovely church opposite is known as the Cathedral of the Dales.
