Worth a Visit

Simply furnished family-run pub in pretty village overlooking small green; chatty bar with low beams and quarry tiles, old Peak District photographs and pictures, log fire, Marstons-related ales and a dozen wines by the glass from copper-topped counter, really good imaginative food using some home-grown produce, friendly efficient service, small snug and neat candlelit dining room with farmhouse furniture and woodburner; children welcome, dogs weekdays only (must book a table if eating), picnic-sets out at front, more seats in big sheltered stableyard behind, closed Sun evening

What the licensee says

The George is an unspoilt, award winning dining pub in the Peak District village of Alstonefield, above Dovedale and a stones throw from Mill Dale within the Peak National Park.

As you walk into neat rooms of old beams, gleaming quarry tiles and a crackling log fire, you will know you're in safe hands.

The dining room and snug have been restored to their original simplicity with lime plastered walls and farmhouse furniture. Candlelight and fresh flowers add a touch of elegance.
