Cheerful pub with plenty of seating in various rooms, open fires, a thoughtful choice of drinks, good food and a friendly landlord

Dating from the 16th c and partly thatched, this former farmhouse is popular with walkers using the nearby Dorset Coast Path. The linked character bar rooms are full of interest: brass and copper measuring jugs, bed warmers, venerable board games and books, stone jars, china plates, a glass cabinet filled with household items from years ago, tilley lamps, a coastguard flag and an old diver's helmet. The main bar has an open fire in a stone fireplace, high-backed black leather dining chairs and cushioned wall settles around heavy rustic tables on red patterned carpet and quite a few stools against the counter. Butcombe Bitter, Dorset Jurassic, Sharps Doom Bar and a summer guest on handpump, six wines by the glass and farm cider; there's a wineshack from which you can choose your own wines, and also a wide choice of teas, coffees and local soft drinks. The similarly furnished dining room leads off here. There are picnic-sets on the lawn and a campsite. Corfe Castle ruins are close by.

We visited the New Inn last night for a drink and a bite to eat. It was so good to see a village pub so busy and after tasting the food we know why.... It was delicious ! The New Inn appears to be popular for it's fresh fish dishes, but we decided to opt for something different and both had the chicken curry. It was a lovely warm evening so we dined alfresco in the beer garden overlooking the lovely countryside. The chicken was so tender, it literally melted in your mouth and the sauce was perfectly spiced and decorated with fresh parsley. It was accompanied with a hot crispy poppadom and a miniature jar of mango chutney and washed down with a cold lager shandy. Amazing food.. Perfect setting. We will be back !
