Friendly inn in fine countryside with cosy bars and dining room, enjoyable food and seats outside; comfortable bedrooms

Mr Dunn runs his handsome inn very well ? it's popular locally and with visitors, and there are views over the Yorkshire Dales National Park. One bar has a medley of cushioned dining chairs and leather or upholstered armchairs around antique wooden tables on slate flooring, with a big deer's head above the inglenook fireplace. A second bar has a small brick fireplace with logs piled to each side, rustic slab tables, cushioned wheelback chairs and comfortable wall seats. Thwaites Lancaster Bomber, Nutty Black and Original Bitter on handpump plus three rotating local guests, 20 wines by the glass and Weston's farm cider. A woodburning stove stands in the fireplace of the airy dining room where there are swagged curtains and smartly upholstered high-backed and pale wooden farmhouse chairs around rustic tables on bare floorboards. The flagstoned and gravelled courtyard has seats and benches around tables under parasols ? some overlook the small green at the front. With good, hearty breakfasts and attractive, warm and comfortable bedrooms (some in the pub, others in the next-door cottage and more in the barn conversion), our readers regularly stay here.
