Friendly owners for well run and handsome old stone inn with plenty of character, real ales and first class food

Having an affable and enthusiastic landlord at the helm of a charming pub is all important, but when he also cooks the excellent food, it's a fantastic bonus. The bar has windsor and other pubby chairs around wooden tables on flagstones, a fireplace with a woodburning stove and high chairs by the counter where they keep Courage Directors, Kettlesmith Faulting and Robinsons Light Brigade on handpump, ten wines and prosecco and champagne by the glass, 12 gins and farm cider. Another room has cushioned and other dining chairs, a nice old settle and a wall banquette around a mix of tables on carpeting, fresh flowers and lots of prints and paintings; board games. There are tables and chairs in the pretty walled back garden, which also has raised beds and a greenhouse for salad leaves and herbs.r

Lower Wraxall is a small place and devoid of mobile phone reception and Wi-fi - which makes the Long Arms even more worthy of recommendation. Exceptional food but presence of many regulars at the bar means that this is a real pub - not just for foodies Menu isn’t extensive but everything is presented with great attention to detail, and with a twist. I had rump of lamb with haggis which was superb Very friendly and efficient service. Warm atmosphere. Real fire. Couldn’t really ask for more.
