Worth a Visit

This charmingly old-fashioned country tavern, tucked into woodland away from main village, has been run by the same family since the 1900s; relaxing and unchanging series of rooms, back one with West Berkshire and Rebellion tapped from the cask, one with bar counter has some tent pegs above the fireplace (they used to be made here), homely side lounge with some splendidly unfashionable 1950s-style armchairs and another room beyond that, only baguettes and pickled eggs; no credit cards; children allowed but must be well behaved, dogs outside only, seats on verandah and in garden, popular with walkers and cyclists, closed Sun evening in winter and may shut early if quiet
