The good pub guide review

This attractive village pub has cosy bars with leather sofas and armchairs, a mix of antique wooden dining tables and chairs on flagstones or stripped wooden floors, a very high-backed settle, 18th- and 19th-c quirky prints and cartoons, and plenty of beams and standing timbers; the three woodburning stoves are put to good use in winter. At the back of the pub is the Blenheim room, just right for a private group, and there's also a candlelit dining room. If the weather is warm you can sit on the front terrace and take in the pleasant setting (the village green and big duck ponds are opposite); there are also seats and a play area in the enclosed back garden. There's Adnams Broadside and Ghost Ship and Woodfordes Wherry and Nelsons Revenge on handpump, more than a dozen wines by the glass and the pub's own-brand Mucky Duck gin, served from a bar counter made of great slabs of polished tree trunk; background music, TV, darts and board games. The six bedrooms within the pub are named after famous local sportsmen and airmen from the World War II air base in Massingham; there are also three larger garden rooms. Wheelchair access.

The good pub guide food review

High quality food includes sandwiches, pheasant tacos with salsa verde, pink onions and avocado, seared tuna steak with kimchi, edamame beans and miso orange dressing, falafel burger with dukkah yoghurt, halloumi and veggie fries, beer-battered cod with dripping chips, Thai massaman curry, barbecue jerk salmon fillet with couscous salad, and puddings such as pear and apple gateau with brown butter pear and brown butter ice-cream and sticky toffee pudding with milk ice-cream and toffee sauce. There is also a wide-ranging pizza menu (served in the garden or as takeaway).
