Popular fine old pub in lovely countryside, beamed bar with good sturdy furniture on tiles in front of big log fire, three other cosy seating areas opening off, enjoyable freshly made food (not Sun evening) from baguettes to specials, Brakspears and guests tapped from the cask, helpful friendly staff; children and dogs welcome, terrace and large garden enjoying peaceful far-reaching views, good walking (Chiltern Way and Ridgeway), leave muddy boots in porch, open all day weekends in summer (closed Sun evening winter)
