18th-c ex-farmhouse in peaceful setting by canal and hump bridge; good freshly made food (not Sun evening) from sandwiches/baguettes and traditional favourites up, well kept ales including one brewed for them by local MerriMen, efficient service, L-shaped bar with log fire and two seating areas to the right (sofas at low tables), a couple of steps down to cosy dining alcove, brick-partitioned restaurant extension to the left with sturdy tables and high-backed leather chairs; some live music including Aug festival, hood skittles and darts, free wi-fi; well behaved children and dogs welcome, wheelchair access, lots of waterside picnic-sets, closed Mon lunchtime in winter, otherwise open all day
