The good pub guide review

Much extended beamed red-brick pub with series of small linked rooms; tiled or flagstoned floors, ochre walls and boarded ceilings, appealing old-fashioned and antique furnishings, hunting pictures and taxidermy, cavernous black hearth with old iron pots etc, well kept ales including cask-tapped Butcombe and Sharps, Weston's cider, good reasonably priced wines, some interesting malt whiskies and a couple of decent gins, enjoyable home-made food from sandwiches and basket meals up (no bookings except Sun lunch), good friendly service, large flagstoned dining conservatory; background music; no under-14s (in bars) or dogs, good disabled access (but no loos), rustic furniture in neat garden with interesting topiary, flower-decked cider presses and lovely hanging baskets, nearby paths up wooded May Hill (NT), three self-catering lodges, closed Sun evening and Mon.
