Unpretentious country local with a dozen well kept changing ales including own Griffin (brewed in next-door barn), farm cider and country wines, standard lunchtime bar food (not Sun); cheery low-beamed L-shaped bar with log fires in two stone fireplaces (one a big inglenook), fairly simple décor including cushioned café seats, elm-topped sewing trestles and a nice old-fashioned settle, beer mats on ceiling, conservatory (children allowed here); games machine; dogs welcome, old-fashioned seats on back grass with distant views of Birmingham, large terrace, play area and summer marquee (live music), camping field, open all day Sun

Don't expect a warm welcome if you have children. As a father with an 18 month old girl it's rare that I get a trip out to the pub so when my parents took me out to lunch I was happy that the Griffin was suggested (being a fan of open fires and real ale!). Unfortunately we were met with an abrupt sign that said 'children in conservatory only' and after a teasing glimpse into the welcoming bar area were directed back out into the December cold towards the equally cold, empty and unwelcoming conservatory/store room. We got back in the car and left. Unpretentious? I think not.

Firstly, I must say - that I am a father of 2 children (currently 10 & 12), and think it's great that there are family orientated pubs. Great stuff. Marvellous. So there should be. However, I'm also a real ale drinker who appreciates quiet Music-Free, and Child-free pubs. So therefore if you have kids, simply go to another pub. This is what I do when I have my bambinos with me. But when I'm just out for a real quality ale without my kids - I head straight for the unpretentious GRIFFON at Shustoke. It's a brilliant ale pub. What is pretentious are parents who expect all other adults to coo over their screaming children.

fantastic real ale pub. never a bad pint. large selection of ales. friendly atmosphere with good honest food in large portions. dogs welcome, kids not. what more do you need?! senior citizen friendly.

Could anybody please tell me if this place has a tele on the Premises that shows football
