Eight Bells

The good pub guide review

Lovely historic inn with cheerful bustling atmosphere; candlelit bar areas with massive timbers and beams, stripped-stone walls and log fires, cushioned pews, sofas and solid dark wood furniture on broad flagstones, ales such as Hook Norton, North Cotswold, Purity and Wye Valley from fine oak counter, also a couple of real ciders and seven wines by the glass, good food including lunchtime doorstep sandwiches, glass panel in dining room reveals church passage used by Catholic priests escaping the Roundheads; background music, board games; well behaved children (not in bar after 7pm) and dogs (in bar) welcome, large terraced garden with striking views of almshouses and church, six attractive comfortable bedrooms, good breakfast, open all day.
