The good pub guide review
Lively unpretentious pub with rambling rooms and notable tiled murals of 1819 Peterloo Massacre (took place nearby); plush little front bar with tiled floor, glossy brown and russet wall tiles, solid woodwork and ornate red and gold ceiling, two cosy inner lounges, both served by hatch, eight real ales including one named for the pub from massive counter with heated footrail, also over 300 malt whiskies, straightforward lunchtime food Mon-Fri; occasional storytelling and live music; children till 7pm, tables in enclosed back garden, handy for Bridgewater Hall concerts, open all day (very busy lunchtime and weekends).
