The good pub guide review
Downstairs dining pub (offshoot from Mr Thomas's Chop House) with original Victorian décor; British food such as steak and kidney pudding, corned beef hash and various grills served by formal waiters, well kept beers and good wine choice, a former haunt of LS Lowry (a bronze statue of him sits contemplatively at the bar), back restaurant with black and white tiled floor; background music; children welcome, some pavement tables, open all day.
