Charming mainly 17th-c hotel with some striking features ' there was some sort of inn here in 947; bar areas have beams (some draped with hops), flagstones or floorboards, exposed stone walls and open fireplaces, mix of tables, wooden and upholstered chairs, stools and settles, church candles, lanterns, books and stone bottles, also a cosy snug, a dining room and a conservatory, well kept Brakspears ales and a couple of guests, good wines by the glass and ten gins, imaginative food and attentive service; background music and board games; children and dogs (in bar and bedrooms) welcome, raised terrace with rattan chairs and cushioned wall benches around rustic tables, 14 stylish luxury bedrooms and particularly good breakfasts, open all day.
