Ancient jettied pub with small downstairs rooms dating from 1320, massive beams, stout oak benches built into timbered walls, log fires, tiny snug (the Horsebox) with pewter counter and rare set of antique taps for gravity-fed spirits, well kept Hop Back, guest beers and 130 malt whiskies, enjoyable food including various venison dishes, friendly staff, steep stairs to restaurant, halfway up is panelled room with splendid fireplace and (behind glass) the mummified hand of an 18th-c card sharp; children and dogs (in bars) welcome, open (and food) all day.
