Old Spotted Cow

The good pub guide review

Civilised country pub with three well kept ales including Skinners Betty Stoggs and maybe Bath or Otter, welcoming attentive staff, two open fires, light wood furniture and cosy sofas, rugs on bare boards and parquet, stripped stone walls, house plants, candles and plenty of cow ornaments and pictures, interesting home-made food as well as more traditional dishes; well behaved children and dogs (in bar) welcome, spacious garden overlooking fields, play area, two bedrooms, open all day.

Licensee Introduction

Straddling the border between Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, the Old Spotted Cow is a traditional Cotswold stone village pub, set well back from the road amongst pretty cottage gardens. Inside there are log fires, oak floors, low beamed ceilings and an old-fashioned hospitality that make it a warm and friendly place to meet up with friends and family. We always have three cask ales on, many of them from small local breweries, and a good range of ciders and lagers. Our wine list is carefully selected and changes twice a year. As with many rural pubs, fresh seasonal food is key to our home-cooked menu and we source ingredients as locally as we can - including from villagers' allotments and gardens when possible. The landlady is the chef, and her monthly menu caters for the traditional and the adventurous. We are increasingly busy at meal times so booking is advised.
