Anchor

The good pub guide review

Historic building in wonderful setting next to magnificent Tintern Abbey ruins; bar with beams, flagstones and bare stone walls, original horse-drawn cider press (used when the grounds were the abbey's orchards), four real ales such as Kingstone, Otter and Wye Valley, good wines by the glass and local ciders, newish restaurant with stone walls, flagstones, elegant dining furniture and folding doors to terrace, airy orangery has best views (abbey is floodlit at night), well regarded food; children and dogs (in bar) welcome, picnics-sets on terrace and lawn, play area, River Wye just behind and lots of surrounding walks, open (and food) all day.
