A pub since the 18th c in picturesque pedestrianised area near cathedral; dark panelling, some stripped brick and exposed joists, impressive plasterwork in large-windowed front room, traditionally furnished with dark pews, cushioned pub chairs and a couple of heavily padded benches, hot coal stove, charming Cypriot landlord and friendly staff, six well kept ales such as Adnams, Butcombe, Fullers and Sharps, enjoyable lunchtime food from sandwiches up including Greek dishes and good Sun roasts; faint background music, live blues/rock last Sun afternoon of month, TV for sports (particularly rugby), games machines, daily papers; children and dogs welcome, picnic-sets in pleasant back courtyard, open all day.
