The good pub guide review
Little-changed handsome Jacobean stone house with particularly kind landlady (here for more than 40 years, now increasingly taking a back seat); pubby-feeling small main bar with antique settles on tiles or built into panelling, shuttered mullioned windows, coal fire, another room with low beams, built-in cushioned pews, oak parquet and small woodburner, Whim Hartington IPA and four usually local guests, farm cider, cheap filled rolls and simple evening meals; no credit cards; children and dogs welcome, couple of benches out in front, good sized garden, community shop on premises, pretty hilltop village (you can walk to Carsington Water from here), bedrooms, nice breakfasts in flagstoned kitchen.
