Newly renovated popular 16th-c pub high on the downs (near Pilgrims Way) run by father and daughter; beamed bare-boards bar with inglenook log fire, tusky boar's head behind dark-panelled counter serving good Kentish beers such as Ramsgate Gadds, Hopdaemon, Old Dairy, Whitstable Brewery and Wantsum, carpeted dining area, enjoyable fairly priced food (all day Sat, till 5pm Sun) from lunchtime sandwiches/baguettes up including range of burgers, friendly helpful service; July beer/cider/cocktail festival with live music; children and dogs welcome, chunky picnic-sets on heated front terrace, more tables in big lawned garden, good local walks, nine bedrooms, open all day.
