The good pub guide review
Deceptively large pub with late Georgian frontage concealing two much older timber-framed buildings; front Tudor Bar with glass panels protecting patches of 300-year-old wallpaper, larger low-beamed Elizabethan Bar with half-panelled walls and maple parquet flooring, more heavy panelling and a 15th-c crown post in upstairs Belfry; around nine real ales including Greene King and Nottingham from remarkable deep sandstone cellar (can arrange tours), ten wines by the glass, reasonably priced straightforward bar food; background music, TV; children welcome in some parts, pavement tables, open (and food) all day (till 12.30am Fri, Sat).
