Lovely hotel in imposing 15th-c abbey building with medieval features remaining; main bar has huge fireplace, antique chairs, horsebrasses, swords and guns, copper kettles, a stag's head, an antler chandelier and country knick-knacks, also Old Kitchen Bar with meat hooks on beamed ceiling, another huge log fire and bread oven, Boot Bar and comfortable sitting room; Exmoor, Otter and a couple of guests, farm ciders and 25 good wines by the glass, excellent food including afternoon tea in more formal restaurant; board games; children and dogs (in bar and bedrooms) welcome, 29 opulent bedrooms (some with four-posters, antiques and carved fireplaces), new beauty salon, charming garden with seating on lawns and terraces, this is one of Exmoor National Park's prettiest villages, open all day.
