Black Lion

The good pub guide review

Gently civilised hotel opposite village green; open fire and comfortable leather seats in back bar (liked by locals), stools by counter serving Adnams and Nethergate ales, cocktails/mocktails and about 30 well chosen wines by the glass, two dining rooms with portraits and gilt-edged mirrors on green walls, candlelit tables and another log fire, good attractively presented food from shortish menu, afternoon teas, friendly efficient staff, also drawing room and conservatory; background music; children and dogs (in bar) welcome, front terrace and charming walled garden, comfortable well equipped bedrooms, the grand cathedral-like church is also worth a visit, open all day.
