Extended old stone-built country inn; front bar with three snug rooms, lots of big black and white photoprints, sturdy simple furnishings, scatter cushions and window seats, a stove flanked by bookshelves one end, large fireplace the other, open kitchen (feature pizza oven) in biggish inner room, spreading restaurant with plenty of tables on pale limestone floor, inventive well liked food including cheaper weekday set menu, ales such as Hook Norton and Sharps, more than 30 wines by the glass, friendly service and cheerful buzzy atmosphere; background music; children and dogs (in bar) welcome, modern seats on sunny front terrace by quiet village lane, nine good bedrooms, open all day.
