Stone-built pub with appealing cottagey atmosphere; unpretentious small panelled public bar, nice old bentwood stools and mix of tables and chairs on bare boards, small dining area, spacious lounge bar, warm open fires, two changing beers such as Brains Rev James and enjoyable generously served food including Tues curry and Thurs steak nights, regular barbecues, two upstairs dining rooms with leather chairs at black tables; background music, dominoes, darts; children and dogs (in bar and lounge) welcome, enclosed back garden with play equipment, view of imposing Carew Castle ruins and remarkable 9th-c Celtic cross, four bedrrooms in adjacent building, open all day, bar meals Mon-Sat.
