Black Bull

The good pub guide review

Bustling 17th-c beamed inn brewing its own good Coniston beers and lagers; back area (liked by walkers and their dogs) with slate floor, more comfortable carpeted front part with log fire and Donald Campbell memorabilia, enjoyable food including daily specials, friendly helpful staff, lounge with Old Man of Coniston big toe (large piece of stone in the wall), restaurant (evenings); they may ask for a credit card if you run a tab; children welcome, plenty of seats in former coachyard, 15 bedrooms, open (and food) all day from 10am, parking not easy at peak times.
